Welcome New Paddler!

Thank you for coming out to Lake Meridian to try dragon boating with the Kent Dragon Boat Association (KDBA).  We hope your experience will be great and that you will join one of our teams.  After all, where else can you get a great workout on a beautiful lake under the watchful eyes of our resident eagles?

Ladies of the Lake is an all women’s team offering an opportunity to practice and compete with women of all ages.  Coaches are Mary Petersen and Connie Sorensen; Managers are Randi Shartin and Sue Fleming.

Dragin’ Tails is a coed team over 18.  This is a wonderful opportunity to compete against other coed teams in the area and can be a great couple’s activity.  Coach is Krista Bradley and Manager/Captain is Maureen Roberts.

Akujiki Dragons is our youth team for youth 14 – 18 years old coached by Krista Bradley. Their season ends after Kent Cornucopia.

KDBA participates in several race events throughout the summer and fall.   Our biggest local event is Kent Cornucopia in July.  Other races are held in Vancouver B.C.  (women’s teams only), Tacoma, Salem, Portland, and Seattle.

As a potential member, you have three trial practices before deciding to participate.  Before any participation you will be asked to sign a release of liability.  Membership is $100 for a single and each additional family member is $75. In order to participate in any race events, you must be a KDBA member.

Please feel free to ask any member of the teams any questions you may have.  Members will sometimes offer suggestions or give tips.  These tips are intended to help you become a better paddle or for your safety.
